The financial director of the Chinese company Huawei, Meng Wanzhou, was allowed to avoid extradition to the United States. According to TASS, this decision was made by the court of the Eastern District of New York, approving her deal with the American authorities.

The Prosecutor's Office presented an agreement signed by both parties on the postponement of prosecution until December 1, 2022. This will allow to postpone the consideration of the Wanzhou case, after which, provided that she complies with all the terms of the contract, all charges will be dropped from her.

The judge did not announce the terms of the deal put forward by the American side during the meeting: the document was submitted to the justice in advance and agreed upon by the accused. Speaking via video link from the Canadian prison of Wanzhou, with the assistance of an interpreter, agreed to the provisions of the agreement.

According to the representative of the prosecutor's office, the approval of the deal will allow the US Department of Justice to immediately send a notification to the Canadian authorities about the withdrawal of the request for the extradition of Wanzhou.

The consideration of the case on the extradition of the Huawei financial director lasts two and a half years. On December 1, 2018, she was detained at Vancouver Airport during a transfer to another flight at the request of an American court. The top manager was accused of selling Huawei equipment to Iran through the Hong Kong company Skycom, bypassing US trade and industrial sanctions. On December 12, Meng Wanzhou was released on bail in the amount of $ 10 million. In 2019, she was charged with industrial espionage and theft of trade secrets.

She is currently under house arrest in the Canadian city of Vancouver. In parallel, the case for her extradition is being conducted by the Supreme Court of the Canadian province of British Columbia in Vancouver.
